Celebrating Success: How Intech Centre’s ESOL with Employability Programme is Changing Lives in Islington

At Intech Centre, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our learners who have successfully completed the ESOL with Employability Programme! This DWP-funded initiative is designed to help unemployed Islington Jobcentre claimants improve their English skills and employability, enabling them to gain confidence and access better opportunities.

Since launching this project, we have successfully enrolled 5 cohorts of 40 learners, covering Pre-Entry, Entry Level 1, and Entry Level 2. All learners have made significant progress in their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, which has helped them communicate more effectively in their daily lives and job searches.

Building Confidence Through English Language Learning

Our programme is carefully designed to develop all aspects of English language learning, helping learners become more confident and independent.

✅ Speaking & Listening – Learners have improved their pronunciation and communication skills, making it easier for them to speak to employers, ask for help, and express themselves clearly. We used role-plays, group discussions, and real-life scenarios to help them build confidence in everyday conversations.

✅ Reading – Many learners struggled with understanding job adverts, emails, or even basic signs. We supported them in reading real-world texts, understanding workplace vocabulary, and improving comprehension to help them navigate their daily lives.

✅ Writing – From filling in job application forms to writing professional CVs and cover letters, learners developed essential writing skills that are crucial for employment. They also practiced writing emails and taking notes to improve their workplace communication.

✅ Listening – Understanding spoken English is essential for job interviews and workplace communication. Learners practiced listening to work-related instructions, customer conversations, and employer expectations, making them more confident in professional settings.

Real Results: Supporting Learners Beyond the Classroom

Our ESOL with Employability programme goes beyond English learning – we empower learners with the skills needed to succeed in work and life.

🔹 Digital Skills: Learners were introduced to basic computer use, including how to search for jobs online, apply for jobs, and use AI for everyday tasks. Many learners who had never used a computer before are now confident in navigating online job searches.

🔹 Job Readiness: Learners created professional, fit-for-purpose CVs and learned how to apply for jobs effectively. They also practiced interview skills, so they feel prepared when speaking to employers.

🔹 Confidence Building: One of the biggest transformations we saw was in self-confidence. Many learners started the course feeling unsure about their abilities, but by the end of the programme, they were able to speak in groups, ask questions, and communicate with confidence.

We are especially proud to share that during the course, five of our learners successfully secured employment, showing the direct impact of our programme in helping people move closer to work.

Continuing to Support Islington Residents

This week, we will be celebrating the completion of another cohort, bringing our total to five active cohorts with 40 learners currently studying at the same time. As part of our commitment to Islington residents, we will continue delivering this valuable programme until August 2025, helping even more learners improve their English and employability skills.
